If you love experiencing the unique celebrations of different cultures, while having a truly unforgettable time then the Songkran Festival in Thailand is definitely for you. The festival takes place from April 13th to the 15th and involves the throwing of water, which is symbolic for washing away all the bad from the previous year. Many of the locals use water in a more calm and traditional manner when cleansing themselves but at the heart of each celebration, you will find water cannons, water pistols and many buckets that will soak you from head to toe. Expect to get very wet, so it might be best to leave all electronics and valuables somewhere safe but feel free to bring your own water pistols!

The 13th is known as Songkran Day, which is when the water throwing will start. Wan Nao is the celebration of the Old Thai New Year held on the 14th and the 15th is Thai New Year’s Day, so expect at least three full days of unbeatable festivities. You’ll also notice locals cleaning their homes and gently washing statues of Buddha, as well as their hands, which will give you an insight into the traditional customs of this fascinating festival.
