Holidays can be an expensive business so it is always a pleasant surprise when you secure a bargain break. It can really put an extra spring in your step knowing that you got an excellent deal on the summer holiday you were looking forward to so much.
So, where is the best value destination for 2018? For a second successive year, the Post Office’s Holiday Money Report has crowned Sunny Beach the king of holiday value. Bulgaria’s Black Sea resort edged out favourites such as the Algarve, Prague, Costa del Sol and Marmaris to claim the title.
The 10th annual Worldwide Holidays Costs Barometer compared 42 destinations across the world adding together the average price of everyday items such as the price of a cup of coffee, pint of beer, meal in a restaurant and a bottle of water among other expenditures. The total cost of these items in Sunny Beach was found to be £37.92 compared to £44.25 in second-placed Algarve. It was in stark contrast to the most expensive Europe destination – Nice – which came in at £106.45.
Sunny Beach was among the cheapest holiday destinations in the world with Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic (£67.46) and Tokyo (£43.14) topping the Americas & Caribbean and Rest of the World categories, respectively.
The Post Office’s research found that European destinations dominated the rankings despite prices in most of these resorts rising. Long haul holiday hotspots noted a fall in prices with places like Dubai, New Zealand, St Lucia and Antigua revealing a 20 per cent drop.
Why visit Sunny Beach?
Sunny Beach is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Bulgaria, thanks in no small part to its excellent location, weather and amenities. The resort hugs the Black Sea coastline and boasts a range of affordable hotels offering excellent views over the beach.
Speaking of the beach, it is an expansive white sand beauty which stretches for eight kilometres. It has everything you could want from water sports to a quiet spot to sunbathe. As the sun sets, you can take your pick from the wealth of restaurants and then dance into the early hours at the array of nightclubs.
If that wasn’t enough then the historic town of Nessebar is just a short drive away where you can visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
