Dubrovnik’s silver screen old town

Main_street-Dubrovnik-1

The cobbled streets and terracotta-roofed buildings of Dubrovnik may strike a familiar note for many people. The Old Town was used as King’s Landing in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones and St. Dominic Street and Ploče Gate provide the backdrop for the show’s most iconic scenes.

It is not just television executives that Dubrovnik has enchanted as playwright George Bernard Shaw described it as the “pearl of the Adriatic” and famously said “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik”.

The shipwreck cove of Zante

Shipwreck beach - Greece

The blue of the ocean, the milky white of the sand, the vibrant green shrubs atop rugged cliffs and the rusted brown of a stricken freightliner, Navagio Beach is the perfect setting for that holiday snap. Regarded as the world’s most famous beach it is a paradise tucked away on the Greek island of Zante.

Whether it goes by Shipwreck Beach, Smugglers Cove or simply Navagio, there is somewhat of an aura around the beach. Accessible only by boat it features the remains of the MV Panagiotis which ran aground in 1980, it is the most photographed place in Greece and one to add to your collection.
