Famed for delicious pizza and stunning architecture, it is easy to see why Naples has been named as one of the top holiday destinations for the coming year.
The Travel Association (ABTA) has compiled its ’12 Destinations to watch’ for 2016 as part of its annual Travel Trends Report naming Naples and Apulia among its shortlist. The Italian region is named alongside the likes of Abu Dhabi, Canada, Peru, Poland, Queensland (Australia), Hawaii and Iceland.
Experts at ABTA believe that 2016 will be the year of adventure with many people visiting a country they have never been before. The likes of Iran and Sri Lanka may be regarded as surprise inclusions but it highlights the intrepid nature of British holidaymakers. There was also room for favourites such as France and Italy with Naples in particular becoming a big destination.
In the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, Naples is a key city on Italy’s glorious Amalfi Coast and is frequented by many holidaymakers driving around this wonderful part of the world. Whether it’s visiting the Museo Cappella Sansevero, seeing an opera at Teatro di San Carlo or sitting down to some delicious Neapolitan style pizza, there is so much beauty to Naples.
Commenting on the latest report, Mark Tanzer, ABTA chief executive, said: “As we look ahead to 2016, it is exciting to reveal our ’12 Destinations to watch’.
“It is always inspiring to see the incredible range of destinations and holidays available to people, trends in the rest of the market are also encouraging and show the ability of the travel industry to evolve and innovate to meet customer demand.”
Like Italy, the Mediterranean is making a major comeback in 2016. Spain is set to enjoy a bumper year with ABTA revealing a surge in bookings for the upcoming summer and while the next 12 months is set to be one of discovery, you still can’t beat those old favourites.
