Here is what our El Gouna Prize winner had to say…

Last year we held a very popular holiday competition where entrants had to get creative with a photo entry to win a luxury holiday to the private resort of El Gouna in Egypt. We were simply blown away by the number of entries and the effort that went into each one, which made picking the winner very difficult but after seeing the entry by Michael Stringer we knew we had a winner!

Michael flew out on 20th March of this year with his wife for a holiday of a lifetime where he spent a week experiencing everything El Gouna had to offer. Here’s what he had to say about his amazing trip:

“We arrived in El Gouna not really knowing what to expect and assuming that it would be much the same as Sharm El Sheik which we have visited before. We were wrong. El Gouna is totally different. At every turn you are met by beautiful greeny blue lagoons, most of which have a sandy beach running into the lagoon where you can sunbath. Lovely hotels, some of which are centred around a lagoon and some of which are straight on the beach, are dotted around, plus a marina and shopping area, make up El Gouna. Our hotel was the Club Paradiso and the pool area went straight onto the beautiful sandy beach. The hotel was great and we could use all of the facilities of its sister hotel the Hotel Steigenberger”.

“There is a secure gated entrance to this area and it felt calm and safe at all times. There is so much to do in El Gouna, in fact the only thing we found was missing was the tropical fish! In Sharm El Sheik these fish are all around and you can snorkel from the jetty, but in El Gouna you will need to take a short boat ride on an organised trip to snorkel and scuba dive with Egypt’s colourful underwater inhabitants! Apart from the lack of fish, El Gouna had something for everyone. There is the championship golf course at the Steigenberger, walks along the beach and many water sports. We saw paddle boarding, sea kayaking, wind surfing, paragliding and you could take to the skies in a micro light aircraft. We took a Tok Tok ride to the Marina and this was a great experience, they drive pretty fast and along the regular roads, but it was very good fun and all for just 50p each way!”.

“Our favourite trip that we booked from the hotel was a quad bide safari into the desert that backs El Gouna, for £30 per person. There were about 20 people in the group and you could have your own individual quad bike, the trip was fun, great value for money and we felt very safe at all times. As part of the trip we were able to ride a camel and watch a traditional Bedouin lady make flatbread in her camp”.

“The Egyptian people were always very friendly and helpful especially those who worked in the hotels. Sometimes they were a bit of a nuisance trying to sell their ‘tours and offers’ but they would leave you alone if you said you had already booked or were going home the next day!”

“El Gouna is a fantastic holiday resort with great weather whatever the year, beautiful beaches and lagoons, masses of things to do and the friendliest of people, we would recommend El Gouna to everyone, from couples, groups of friends and families. Whether you just want to chill out in lovely surroundings or have an active holiday, El Gouna has something for everyone”.
