Roll out the red carpet, line up the paparazzi and put the champagne on ice because its awards season in the aviation world.
One of the highlights of the calendar is the SKYTRAX World Airline Awards which is essentially the Oscars for everything that takes to the skies. Among the big winners at the glitzy affair was easyJet which once again scooped a number of coveted awards.
The UK-based carrier was named the ‘Best Low-Cost Airline in Europe’ and also bagged the same accolade for the UK. It was also ranked second in the world for budget airline and was only pipped to top spot by AirAsia. Both Norwegian and Ryanair featured in the top 10 of global low-cost airlines.
While easyJet’s success was a win for UK airlines, not a single British carrier managed to crack the world’s top airlines. Qatar Airways has crowned the best airline in the world in a top 10 that was dominated by Asian airlines. Singapore, ANA All Nippon, Cathay Pacific Airways and Hainan all featured in the top 10 while Germany’s Lufthansa was Europe’s only representative.
British Airways was commended on its staff with it claiming the award for ‘Best Airline Staff in Europe’ while also having the best cabin crew in the UK. However, easyJet’s low-cost provided a huge boost for the airline.
EasyJet has recently been expanding its network with new routes opening between London-Stansted and Paris and flights to Jerez de la Frontera, Kalamata in Greece, Bari in Italy and Nice all from Manchester.
