Fuerteventura is one of the most popular islands in the Canary Islands for tourism and once you’ve visited – if you haven’t already – you will understand why!
Located on the north tip of the island, the resort of Corralejo is still very much a fishing village at it’s heart, however thanks to the delicate introduction and expansion of the tourism industry, it’s hotels and other modern amenities, the resort has still managed to keep it’s traditional look & feel and has had a minimal impact on the surrounding volcanic environment.
One of the main reasons that Corralejo is so popular is because of it’s beautiful beaches including the stunning Grandes Playas, which stretches for an incredible 7km and is often described as the most beautiful beach in the world! As well as being long, the beach is comfortably wide, so you won’t have any trouble finding a space to sunbath on the wonderfully soft white sand! But make sure you watch out for the sizzling sun as it can get very, very hot especially during midday, which is why it’s best to keep a good supply of sun lotion to hand and keep hydrated!
Another great beach that’s a little closer to the town is the Town Beach. Although this beach is substantially smaller, you can still enjoy soft white sand and beautiful waters as well as a few of the entertaining water sports!
If you love partying then you’ll love Corralejo as the town is considered to have some of the best nightlife in the whole of Fuerteventura thanks to it’s good selection of bars that stay open well into the early hours of the morning! There is also a great selection of live music venues to choose from where you will get the chance to relax and listen to some very talented musicians play an impressive selection of songs!
If you love exploring and discovering new sites and different landscapes then Corralejo is the place to be, as it offers a good range of different areas including the Sand Dune National Park, which is a large expanse of land dedicated to preserving the sand dunes that spread throughout the area. The scenery here is almost desert like but they are definitely worth exploring either on foot or on one of the dune buggy rides! Another great site to see is Isla se los Lobos (known to many as Lobos Island) which is a stunning island that is an entire nature reserve! You can access the island by ferry and if you wish to explore, you can walk around the island in 2-3 hours! This is definitely a must see for everyone visiting the area!
