Let’s be honest winter in the UK is not great. The days are short, it rains a lot and it’s cold, really cold. Wouldn’t it be great to have a couple rays of sunshine in the autumn and winter months? Well, with Sunmaster – you can!
There is nothing better than a bit of winter sun. Waltzing around a sun-kissed Mediterranean resort while the rain batters down at home, sipping a fancy cocktail while folks at home are clutching a cup of tea to stay warm – there is a lot to feel smug about with a winter holiday. So where do you want to go? We’ve picked out some of our favourite destinations for a winter break.
Lanzarote is a big summer favourite and this corner of the Canary Islands is just as beautiful in the winter months. Blessed with a hugely diverse landscape it provides an excellent holiday destination no matter what kind of person you are. Visit the incredible volcanoes of Timanfaya National Park and watch the geysers shoot red hot steam into the air or take in amazing views of the island at Mirador del Rio in the northern end of Lanzarote.
Then, of course, there are the lively resorts of Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and Arrecife where you will find purpose-built resorts perfect for chilling out after a long day.
We continue our winter tour in the Canary Islands and if you thought Lanzarote’s landscape was impressive it is nothing compared to Gran Canaria. The island is a huge favourite among hikers with so many exciting routes to follow. See the legendary Roque Nublo close to Tejeda, regarded as a pillar of Heaven by locals, or cycle to the amazing valley of Barranco de Arguineguin near Soria.
However, if you want a holiday of relaxation then Gran Canaria has you covered. Spend long days in the resort of Playa del Ingles taking advantage of its pristine beach.
The Costa Blanca is an old favourite among us Brits. We’ve been enjoying this sunkissed Spanish shoreline for generations and a winter break here is just as good. While Benidorm provides that home away from home vibe, travelling to the rustic charm of Alicante provides a much different Costa Blanca break.
Take a seat in a restaurant by the marina and watch the luxury yachts float in. During the day, you can explore the city including the Castle of Santa Barbara which has overlooked the city since the 9th century.
Looking for somewhere a little different then how about visiting Malta? Lying off the coast of Italy, Malta is one of the more underrated holiday destinations and with temperatures staying around the mid-20 degrees mark it is perfect for the winter sun season.
Wander through the winding streets of the capital Valetta, which has been named the European Capital of Culture for 2018, or hop across to the archipelago of Gozo and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ggantija Temples. Head to St Julian’s to enjoy a happening nightlife with a wealth of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to enjoy.
We’re rounding off our winter sun journey by returning to the Canary Islands (everybody likes the Canaries) but this time it’s the turn of Fuerteventura. Like its neighbours, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, Fuerteventura boasts incredible landscape – but where it truly excels is its beaches.
The island has some of the best beaches in the region ranging from the white sandy beaches of Morro Jable to the secluded coves of Esquinzo. Travelling with the family? Then head to the popular resort of Corralejo.
