The lines have closed, the votes have been counted and the results are in. The winner of the annual Sunmaster Halloween Pumpkin Carving competition is…

Jessica Watkins from Cumbria!

It has been a hugely difficult selection with the judges amazed at the skill and effort put in by all the entrants but 12-year-old Jessica impressed both our panel and the public with her amazing pumpkin carousel.

Entries were whittled down to the last eight and with our panel split on which one to land the grand prize, the public voted overwhelmingly to crown Jessica this year’s pumpkin carving champion. She will receive the top prize of Halloween sweet hamper (worth £50) and eternal pumpkin glory.

Second place was claimed by Amanda Breen from Strathaven who went for a Mexican skull pumpkin which gave the judges a real fright. Third place was scooped by Erin Gilmartin from Liverpool who created her favourite Pokémon, Pikachu, in her entry; while fourth-placed was 5 year old Tyra Phillips from Birmingham.

The runners-up will receive a personalised jar of sweets.

The standard of entries was really high this year and honourable mentions must go to pumpkins resembling Heath Ledger’s Joke, Simba from the Lion King, a series of ghoulish ghosts and an incredible homage to the Wakefield Wildcats rugby league team.

Congratulations to all the winners and if you missed out this year, don’t worry as you’ll have plenty of time to practice for next year’s competition.
