5 things you need to do in Lanzarote in 2021

Home to a stunning landscape, an abundance of beaches and bustling resorts, it’s no wonder that Lanzarote has been of our favourite holiday destinations for decades.

One of the Canary Islands’ big hitters, it ticks all the boxes you need when picking your cheap holidays 2021. Whether you’re holidaying as a family, looking for a quiet couples’ retreat or simply want to explore this beautiful island by yourself – there is so much waiting to be discovered. Here are our top picks of what to do in Lanzarote.

Have a volcanic barbecue in Timanfaya National Park

Where else in the world can you have your meal prepared on an actual volcano? Set in the magnificent lunar landscape of Timanfaya National Park is the famous El Diablo restaurant. Thanks to the access to geothermal heat on its surrounding you can enjoy classic Canarian food cooked on the volcano.

You can also enjoy a unique tour of Lanzarote’s national park on the back of a camel, or just take a guided bus tour.

See the amazing Museo Atlantico

Lanzarote is full of fascinating sights but nothing comes close to the Museo Atlantico. Lying beneath Marina Rubicon is Europe’s first underwater sculpture museum. The brainchild of artist Jason deCaires Taylor it features ten different groups of sculptures including a poignant exhibit which depicts a boat of refugees.

The installation is designed to generate an artificial reef as the ocean reclaims the sculptures. You can view this one-of-a-kind museum on special diving and snorkelling excursions.

Bask on its beaches

When you want that warm feeling of the sand between your toes, Lanzarote has you covered. For an island formed by volcanic eruptions, it has some pretty special beaches. There is a stretch of shoreline to suit every mood from the quiet black sands of Playa del Charco de los Clicos to the remoteness of Playa de las Conchas.

Of course, you will find the popular sands of Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen which are lined vibrant promenades.

Go to Teguise market

Costa Teguise is a haven for holidaymakers thanks to its beaches, huge choice of hotels and bars and restaurants. However, one of the weekly highlights is the market. Held every Sunday, people come from all over the island to peruse the handcrafted gifts and delicious deli food made from local produce.

This is a chance to experience typical Canarian life and even test out your haggling skills!

Enjoy a fun-filled day at its water parks

Who doesn’t love a water park? It’s the ultimate crowd-pleasing holiday activity and Lanzarote has a number of fun-filled parks for you to enjoy. The biggest and best on the island is AquaPark with a collection of exhilarating slides such as the Kamikaze and Rio Loco rapids. However, this is a place for everyone with kids’ splash zones, a 10D cinema, restaurants and even a chill-out space for the grown-ups.

In Playa Blanca, the resort has two parks – Aqualava and Dino Park – where you can take on slides and enjoy spectacular views of the island at the same time.
