It’s February and you’re looking for a little winter sun. Where can you go that’s going to guarantee some lovely, warm weather? Why, the Costa del Sol of course! While some will head to lively party destinations of Torremolinos, Marbella and Puerto Banus, the family-friendly destination of Benalmadena is ideal for a February retreat.

Take the whole gang down to Benalmadena Costa and enjoy the miles of golden sands and the bars and restaurants that line the shoreline. Treat the kids to a day out at Tivoli World, a quaint theme park with plenty of rides to keep them entertained. Perhaps pay a visit to Selwo Marina and see dolphins, sea lions and even penguins. You’ll find a beautifully relaxing stay in Benalmadena.

Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Costa Teguise

Looking for the ultimate in relaxation? Then Costa Teguise is the place for you. One of Lanzarote’s most popular resorts during the peak season, it is obviously a little more subdued during February but nonetheless charming.

It has no less than five beaches in the resort with Playa Cucharas and Playa Bastian being among the favourites. Then, of course, there is the hugely popular AquaPark, the only waterpark on the island, which will no doubt be on the to-do list of your children. In the evening, you can head into the Old Town and choose from the range of restaurants serving everything from classic Canarian fare to international dishes.

Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria

Playa de ingles

Our last stop on our Canary Islands expedition is Playa del Ingles in glorious Gran Canaria. One of the pioneering destinations in the package holiday boom of the 1960s and 1970s, it has remained a firm favourite ever since.

It is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a couple of days relaxing on a beach. Stroll along the famous namesake beach and visit neighbouring Maspalomas and San Agustin or just chill out by the pool – the choice is yours and they are both equally as good.

Albufeira, Portugal

You can’t beat a slice of the Algarve and this corner of Portugal is just as glorious in winter as it is in summer. Albufeira has long been a family holiday favourite but while during the peak season it can get crowded, it is a beautiful place to visit during the February half term.

Take your pick from the huge amount of hotels and apartments dotted across the resort. The bars and restaurants remain open throughout the off-season so you won’t have any problem finding somewhere to eat and, of course, the beaches are still as inviting. Venture out to the marina and see the multi-coloured buildings while don’t forget to pick up a souvenir from the old town.

Don’t forget to swing by Zoomarine, an aqua theme park with live seal, dolphin and sea lion shows making for a great family day out.
